PURPOSE: To prohibit pickup of dust on the recoating surface of an automobile.

CONSTITUTION: An ionizing gas is ejected from a destaticizing gun 1 toward a coating surface 4. The compressed air passing the plasma region in a needle electrode arranged in the outlet of this destaticizing gun 1 is ionized to make the potential of the coating surface 4 zero. Simultaneously, the air blows off the dust picked up thereon. The air in a coating booth is forcibly discharged and the dust suspending in this booth is extremely little; in addition, the surface of the coating surface 4 is electrically neutralized and, therefore, the suspending dust does not stick to the coating surface 4 even during coating.
