PREVENTING OR THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR CACHEXIA CONTAINING COX-2 INHIBITOR

To obtain the subject new agent having excellent preventing or suppressing effects on cachexia and low toxicity by including a cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitor.

This agent contains a COX-2 inhibitor. 3-(3,4-Difluorophenyl)-4-(4- methanesulfonylphenyl)-5H-furan-2-one, 4-(5-p-toluyl-3-trifluoromethyl-1H- pyrazol-1-yl)benzenesulfonamide (common name: celecoxib), etc., are preferred as the COX-2 inhibitor. The agent and an anticancer agent selected from 5- fluorouracil, cisplatin, etc., can simultaneously, separately or successively be administered. The COX-2 inhibitor and the anticancer agent may be contained in the same composition. The agent is preferably adminsitered in a daily dose of 0.1-10 mg/kg in the case of oral administration and 0.01-5 mg/kg in the case of intravenous administration.
