Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new benzene derivative, having selective strong antiviral activities against only viruses without affecting a host cell, and useful as a preventing and therapeutic agent for viral diseases (e.g. a hepatitis C virus).
SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [A is O, S, NH, CH,, etc.; X and Y are each H or, together, are a single bond, O, S, etc.; R1 to R8 are each H, a group represented by the formula C(U1)R9 (U1 is 0 or S; R9 is H, OH, a halogen, etc.), etc.], its salt or a hydrate thereof, e.g. 2,7-bis[2-(4- morpholino)ethyloxy]fluorenone. A compound, represented by formula II and belonging to the compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula III with a compound represented by formula IV (X is OH or a halogen) in the presence of a base such as sodium hydride.
