Title:
PREVENTION OF CORROSION OF WATER ELECTROLYSIS DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59232283
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent an electrolysis device from inducing stress corrosion with an alkaline aq. soln. in a high pressure water electrolysis device using the alkaline aq. soln. as a raw material by providing a filter on which negative voltage is impressed right behind the outlet of the circulating electrolyte on the anode side of the electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:An alkaline aq. soln. contg. 25-30% KOH is put as an electrolyte into a high pressure water electrolytic cell 1 using porous ''Teflon'', etc. as a diaphragm 2 and is electrolyzed in an anode chamber 3 having an anode 3a and a cathode chamber 4 having a cathode 4a to generate gaseous H2 from the cathode 4a and gaseous O2 from the anode 3a. These gases are separated and recovered from the aq. soln. by gas-liquid separators 8, 7 in the respective external circulating passages. A filter 9 formed of an Ni wire screen is disposed in the outlet of the chamber 3 in this case and the negative voltage of the cathode 4a is impressed thereon to annihilate the activity of the nascent oxygen, thereby shielding electrically the outlet. Generation of stress corrosion is thus obviated even in the circulating system for the aq. soln. dissolved therein with the pressurized oxygen on the anode side where the stress corrosion is most likely to occur.
