PURPOSE: To raise the safety of low-temperature underground storage tank by relieving freezing pressure exerting on the storage tank by bedding the area in and around the storage tank with soil and sand impregnated with a hydrophobic agent in the installation of the low-temperature underground storage tank.
CONSTITUTION: When the storage tank 1 is installed, the soil and sand 6 impregnated with the hydrophobic agent, e.g., an oil, asphalt, etc., is bedded in pit B digged in a wider area than the predicted freezing area A around the storage tank, or a hydrophobic agent is injected by a grout injection method into the ground 2 in and around the storage tank 1 over a wider area C than the predicted freezing area A in such a way as to uniformly impregnate the hydrophobic agent in the ground. Thus, in and around the storage tank 1 where the soil and sand are impregnated with the hydrophobic agent over wider range B or C than the predicted freezing area A, the intrusion of water into the impregnated soil and sand can be completely prevented.
