The saturated swelling degree of a primary coating layer 11 is 30% or smaller when dipped in ethanol in the primary coated optical fiber 20 provided with an optical fiber bare wire 10 and the primary coating layer 11 and a secondary coating layer 12 successively furnished on the outer periphery of the optical fiber bare wire 10. Further, the variation in the coated diameter of the primary coated optical fiber 20 is 15% or smaller when dipped in ethanol. The saturated swelling degree of the primary coating layer 11 is 20% or larger and 30% or smaller when dipped in ethanol, and the cross-sectional area of the primary coating layer 11 with respect to the cross-sectional area of the secondary coating layer 12 is 70% or smaller. The saturated swelling degree of the primary coating layer 11 is 20% or larger and 30% or smaller when dipped in ethanol, and the saturated swelling degree of the secondary coating layer 12 is 5% or smaller when dipped in ethanol.
