To provide a print device capable of adjusting its transport mechanism easily and accurately by automatically sensing the dislocation amount, in particular the meandering amount, when a print paper P1 is transported.
The print device is structured so that a sensor S of reflection type capable of sensing the position of an image is installed in a single piece with a print head H. The pattern AP for adjustment stretching straight in the transporting direction (auxiliary scanning direction Y) of the print paper P1 is printed, which is scanned by the sensor S, and the position in the paper width direction (main scanning direction X) of the pattern AP for adjustment is sensed for each amount of feeding over the range from the leading edge in the transporting direction to the trailing edge. On the basis of the result from sensing, the distortion ΔX of the printed pattern AP is sensed, and the dislocation amount (meandering amount) of the print paper P1 at the time of transporting for printing is sensed quantitatively on the basis of the size of the distortion ΔX.
