A card which is the rewritable recording medium, is conveyed in a conveying direction X, and an erasure head 36 erases a visible image by heating the rewritable recording medium. In addition, the erasure head 36 has a first heating element 61 and a second heating element 62 which divert in a crossing direction Y to the conveying direction X, and heat a plurality of part regions of the rewritable recording medium in the crossing direction Y. In the case of erasure in a magnetic stripless card, the first heating element 61 and the second heating element 62 build up heat and thereby, erase the visible image over the entire card surface. In the case of erasure in a card with a magnetic stripe, only the first heating element 61 builds up heat and erases the visible image in the partially formed visible image region 50b, while avoiding the heating of the magnetic stripe.
