A print management system 10 comprises: an application monitoring unit 306 which monitors applications and stores information on running state of applications and use state of files in a storage device; a print job monitor unit 307 which monitors a print job input to a system spooler 305 and acquires information on the print job; a file information acquisition unit 308 which checks the acquired information on the print job against the information on running state of applications and use state of files held in the storage device and identifies a print object file based on the degree of matching between the checked information to acquire prescribed file information from the print object file; and a log transmission unit 310 which generates a print log based on the acquired file information to output the print log to an output device or transmit the print log to other devices via a communication device.
