To provide a printer capable of keeping the inside of the printer sanitary, and to provide a printing control method.SOLUTION: A printer 1 includes: a finger rest 6 for arranging a finger corresponding to a nail to be printed; a printing part 40 for performing printing on a finger pawl arranged on the finger rest 6; an inactivated light irradiation part 7 as a light irradiation part for irradiating an arrangement surface 6a on which at least a finger on the finger rest 6 is arranged, with light; a determination part 314 for determining whether or not a finger is arranged on the arrangement surface irradiated with light by the inactivated light irradiation part 7, on the finger rest 6; and an irradiation control part 313 for controlling light irradiation by the inactivated light irradiation part 7.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
