To provide a printer and a printing system which can execute a calibration at a good timing for a user.
When a printing demand transmitted from a computer 40 is received, and it is the execution timing for a color shift correction (calibration), the execution sequence is inquired to the computer 40 as a transmission source based on transmission source information included in the printing demand, and then, the printing and the color shift correction are executed by the sequence conforming to an indication signal transmitted from the computer 40. Thus, e.g., in a case of an emergent printing, the printing is performed first. On the contrary, when the printing quality is required, the color shift correction is performed first. In this way, the color shift correction can be executed by the timing convenient for the user.
