PURPOSE: To print in designated font without giving burden on a host computer and with high speed by receiving the designated font directly from other printer when the font designated by the host computer is not present.

CONSTITUTION: A printer system comprises a host computer and a plurality of laser printers connected by circuits. Each laser printer is provided with a user memory for storing fonts. When a font designated by the host computer is not stored in the user memory, the laser printer inquires a retrieval of the designated font of other laser printer and requests the laser printer having the designated font to send the designated font. The data of the designated font received from the other laser printer is stored in the user memory. With the font stored in this user memory, printing is performed.
