The printer 1 is a printer which performs printing to a recording paper while moving an ink ribbon to a head by rotatably driving the ink ribbon shaft 10 with the long ink ribbon wound in a roll shape. The printer comprises an ink ribbon cassette 5 which pivots the ink ribbon shaft 10 to freely rotate and supports the ink ribbon shaft to freely slide in the axial direction of the ink ribbon shaft, a driving part 30 which supports the ink ribbon cassette to freely slide and rotatably drives at least the ink ribbon shaft supported by the ink ribbon cassette, a moving mechanism 20 which moves by sliding the ink ribbon shaft in the axial direction of the ink ribbon shaft, a supporting part 3 which supports at least the driving part and the moving mechanism, and a case 5 which covers at least a part of the supporting part. The moving mechanism 20 moves by sliding the ink ribbon shaft in the axial direction by relative movement of the supporting part and the case.
