To prevent stepping out of a driving motor without causing a trouble in conveyance of printing paper, while securing downsizing resulting from simplification of a mechanism.
The printer includes: a loading unit 3 onto which the rolled printing paper 100 is loaded; a paper feed roller 8 to feed the printing paper from the loading unit; a return roller 9 to return and convey the printing paper; a printing head 6a to perform printing with respect to the printing paper; a cutter mechanism unit 7 including a cutter for cutting the printing paper; an ejecting unit 8 to which the printing paper is ejected; a capstan 13 to convey the printing paper toward the ejecting unit; a pinch roller 14 which is brought in contact with the capstan with the printing paper interposed between itself and the capstan 13; the driving motor 19 to rotate the capstan; and a tension control mechanism 22 to move the return roller in accordance with the level of load applied to the driving motor; wherein the center of rotation of the return roller is moved more on the feed direction side of the printing paper to be fed to the return roller than the bisector of the line of the feed direction of the printing paper to be fed to the return roller and the line of the feed direction of the printing paper to be fed from the return roller.
