Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which is made compact without sacrifice of the recording medium carrying performance and in which switching can be made between direct transfer and indirect transfer at the time of printing.
SOLUTION: The printer 1 is provided, in the housing 2 thereof, with a first card carrying passage P1 for forming an image on a card C by direct transfer, and second card carrying passage P2 for transferring an image formed on an intermediate transfer sheet F to the card C by intermediate transfer. A section 9 for forming an image on the card C or the intermediate transfer sheet F is disposed on the first card carrying passage P1 and a section 10 for transferring an image formed on the intermediate transfer sheet F to the card C is disposed on the second card carrying passage P2. The first card carrying passage P1 and the second card carrying passage P2 intersect perpendicularly. The printer can thereby be made compact while increasing the degree of freedom in design.
