PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a precise printing by detecting the peeled end part of a matter to be printed, thereby detecting the position of the matter to be printed, and performing the printing on the basis of this position.
SOLUTION: The tip of a label is detected by a light emitting diode 22 and a light receiving diode 23 (A). When the tip of the first label 50a is detected (B), the label 50a is discharged as it is (C), and the tip S of the next label 50b is detected (D). Since the length or pitch of the label 50 can be known by the two detections, the label 50b is returned to a printing position on the basis of the detection result to start the printing, or the tip end S of the next label 50c is moved to the printing position to start the printing. Thus, a precise printing can be executed on the labels 50 in the same manner. It is not necessary to provide both a position detecting device and a paper discharge device, and provision of one of the both is sufficient.
