PURPOSE: To simultaneously select sub-character fonts of both of a fixed pitch and a proportional pitch by providing a means for storing the kind of the character font of the fixed pitch and a means for storing the kind of the character font of the proportional pitch to a character font selection mechanism.

CONSTITUTION: At first, it is judged whether the present printing mode is a fixed pitch or a proportional pitch by a printing mode memory part 1. In the case of the fixed pitch, the character font stored in a fixed pitch character font kind memory part 5 can be selected as a printing font. When the printing mode is the proportional pitch, the character font stored in a proportional pitch character font kind memory part 6 can be selected as a printing character font.
