To provide a printing apparatus which is capable of printing the data without destroying them when a user changes the paper to other kinds of papers in coping with jam backup in the case the paper is jammed because the paper supplied by a paper supplier is actually different from that of the specified papers.

The printing apparatus has a function of processing jam backup on the basis of jam backup information for recovering a jammed page in printing an image data thereof after the paper jam was released. An operating panel 6 indicates whether or not the backup process is conducted by changing the kind of papers to other kinds of papers in case the paper is jammed amid printing after the paper jam was released. The apparatus is also provided with a control means 1 that controls the printing by a printing engine 7 after conducting the jam backup in case the jam backup is to be conducted by using the selected other kind of papers.
