To provide a printing device which does not cause the deterioration of printing quality by checking the mounting of an adaptable thermal head.

The printing device is equipped with a head fixed ID memory unit built in the thermal head wherein fixed information including the maker code and model number of the thermal head has been memorized in a specific address, an adaptable head ID memory unit which memorizes two or more adaptable thermal head fixed information and a judgement means for judging whether the information is adaptable or not by comparing the fixed information memorized in the head fixed ID memory unit with the adaptable fixed information memorized in the adaptable head ID memory unit. At the time of starting the apparatus body, the fixed information of both the head fixed ID memory unit and the adaptable head ID memory unit is compared by the judgement means. If the information is judged not to be adaptable, an admonition is issued.
