PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device equipped with a printing plate making mechanism which uses a printing plate in which data are recorded externally.
SOLUTION: A first operating mode for using an unused printing plate or a second operating mode for using a printing plate in which data are already recorded is selected in step S2. In case the first operating mode is selected the operation proceeds to step S3 to detect the kind of the printing plate placed on the top of a supply cassette. In step S4, a control means judges whether the printing plate is unused in accordance with the detection results. When the kind of the printing plate is matched, the operation proceeds to step S5 and the following steps and the mounting of the unused printing plate, the making of the printing plate and a printing operation are sequentially performed. On the other hand, in case the second operating mode is requested in the step S2, the setting of the printing plate in which data are recorded in the supply cassette the detection of the kind of the printing plate, the judgement of whether the kind of the printing plate is matched and the mounting of such a printing plate are performed (steps S11-S14). After that, the operation advances to step S7 to perform the printing operation without carrying out the printing plate making operation (step S6).
