PURPOSE: To contract or enlarge a printing pattern and to increase the variable range of a repeating length, by differentiating the peripheral speed of a printing means and the running speed of a web at a definite ratio at the time of printing and increasing and decreasing the speed of the printing means at the time of non-printing.
CONSTITUTION: The running speed of a web 10 to be printed and the peripheral speed of a printing means such as a printing plate 44 are differentiated at a definite change ratio so as to become non-synchronous to allow the web 10 and the printing plate 44 to slip and enlargement or contraction printing is performed so that the repeating length of a printing pattern P to the dimension of the printing plate 44 in the peripheral direction thereof becomes R. When printing is finished, the allowance of an angle θ is generated. When the peripheral speed of the printing plate 44 and the running speed of the web 10 are differentiated and speed variation is further necessary, a plate cylinder 42 is accelerated or decelerated during the allowance θ and the repeating length is further extended and contracted. Thereafter, the peripheral speed of the printing plate 44 is returned to the original value.
