PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of undershooting under a simple control and prevent the occurrence of a time lag in acceleration in a printer.

CONSTITUTION: A title system is provided with pulse detection means 2, 3 for detecting an index pulse and a constant-speed control pulse; a counting means 8A which is disposed on a position preceding a printing head reversing area for counting a predetermined count value (m) of a constant-speed control pulse from an index pulse and further counting a predetermined count value (m+o) from the count value (m); and a reverse rotation control means 8B which outputs a reverse rotation start signal for reversely rotating a motor 20 to a driver 33 at the count value (m) and a reverse rotation completion signal at the count value (m+o).
