A printer 14 has two connection terminals, connectable to an external host computer 11 by using a daisy chain connection and determines whether an external device which is the host computer 11 or another printer 17 is connected to the connection terminals. Based on the result of the determination, the printer executes printing on the basis of the type of printing data, made to correspond to the connection state of the connection terminal in advance, in prescribed multiple types of printing data outputted from the host computer 11 via a daisy-chain connection.
