Title:
PROCESS FOR ALKYLATING AROMATIC COMPOUND IN HYDROGEN FLUORIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3457957
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous multistage process for carrying out acylation or alkylation of an aromatic compound in hydrogen fluoride.
SOLUTION: This process for continuous alkylation of the aromatic compound (e.g. methylisopropylbenzene) in the hydrogen fluoride and comprises (a) a step of feeding the hydrogen fluoride and one or more alkylating agents (e.g. 3,3-dimethyl-1-butene) to an extractor-reactor to form a first, hydrogen fluoride- rich phase, (b) a step of feeding an aromatic compound-containing material into the extractor-reactor to form a second, aromatic compound-rich phase and (c) a step of bringing the first, hydrogen fluoride-rich phase into contact with some of the second, aromatic compound-rich phase in a manner such that the alkylation agents react with the aromatic compound in the extractor-reactor to form an alkylation product (e.g. 1,1,3,4,4,6-hexamethyltetralin) of the aromatic compound which is extracted into the hydrogen fluoride phase.
