Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make not only the longitudinal passage of the convolution of a nonwoven strip already carried on a broad carrier web but also a variation of the width of the nonwoven strip detectable when transversely applying a new convolution of the nonwoven strip by installing a special detector.

CONSTITUTION: A nonwoven strip 2 is fed from a feeder 3 at a prescribed tilt angle to a revolving broad endless carrier web 1 and at least one layer of the nonwoven strip 2 layer comprising the convolution of the plurality of nonwoven strips 2 transversely arranged side by side is carried on a broad carrier web 1 and revolved. Needle punching is then carried out on the nonwoven strip 2 layer with a needle punching device 4 to form a broad nonwoven strip. At this time, a sensor comprising a light-emitting and light- receiving unit 10 is attached to a scanning device 8 and the sensor is reciprocated at right angles to the longitudinal edge 7 to move a light beam. Thereby, the passage of the longitudinal edge 7 can precisely be detected.
