Abstract:

To provide a process and an apparatus for producing high-purity (i.e. higher than 99.7%) para-xylene with an amount equal to that produced in a conventional apparatus by using an adsorbent with a volume less than that in the conventional apparatus.

In a process for separating xylene by simulated counter-current (SCC), two absorbers connected in series with a total number Nt of beds of 22 or fewer are used and operated under a predetermined operation condition (temperature, pressure, flow ratio, recirculation ratio, circulation time, average linear velocity, and moisture content). In the process of the invention, there are a case in which the process is conducted by using a new apparatus and another case in which the process is conducted by remodeling an existing apparatus.
