Title:
PROCESS FOR BROMINATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04211623
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a novel mixture of brominated, non-condensed ring polyraomatics having a high value in an average bromine number of about 6.7 to about 7.3 without reducing impact strength of articles.

CONSTITUTION: Preparation of a novel mixture of brominated, non-condensed ring polyaromatics, which comprises adding bromine to a reactor containing a precursor non-condensed ring polyaromatic, a solvent and a catalytic amount of AlCl3, maintaining the reactor contents at a temperature within the range of 5°C-20°C during the addition of bromine, stopping the addition of bromine when the molar number of the bromine added reaches the substantially same mole number required for the mixture; and recovering the brominated, non- condensed polyaromatic mixture from the residue in the reactor after all of the added bromine has been substantially reacted, wherein the recovered brominated, non-condensed polyaromatic mixture has an average bromine number of 6.7-7.3 based on GC area % and comprises hexabromo, heptabromo and octabromo homologs of the brominated, non-condensed polyaromatic.
