Abstract:

To graft another monomer to a resin for acrylic fibers to improve the heat resistance of the resin for acrylic fibers attributable to defective structures in the main chain and enhance the present performance such as flame retardancy, processability and dyability.

A resin for acrylic fibers is brought into presence in a living radical polymerization system using a copper compound as a catalyst. The polymerization of a polymerizable vinyl compound is initiated from the defective points of the resin for acrylic fibers: thereby eliminating the defective points of the resin for acrylic fibers; and giving new properties to the resin due to the properties of the side chains grafted to defective points.
