Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the hydrolyzing process on a commercial basis for group IVB metal chlorides containing titanium chlorides (TiCl4), zirconium chlorides (ZrCl4), and hafnium chlorides (HfCl4).
CONSTITUTION: After solids of TiCl4, ZrCl4, and/or HfCl4 are gradually introduced into the mixing zone of a high intensity mixer, chlorides of group IVB metals are mixed with a solution to hydrolyze the chlorides of the group IVB metals, thereby producing hydrolyzed solid group IVB metal oxy salts such as zirconium oxy chlorides, titanium oxy chlorides, hafnium oxy chlorides, and zirconium oxy sulfides.
