To provide a light emitting device with down-sizing aimed at and light utilization improved.
A reflective conductor material film (5) is formed as a trigger electrode on a circumferential surface of a glass bulb (2) of an arc tube (1). The reflective trigger electrode film is provided with a fine linear light emitting opening (6) and emits irradiating light outside through the light emitting opening. The irradiating light generated by a light emitting operation is emitted outside directly through the light emitting opening and at the same time is emitted outside in a multi-reflection through the light emitting opening. The light emitting device with a high light utilization ratio can be realized by the multi-reflection action by the reflective trigger electrode film and a dispersed light controlling effect at the fine linear light emitting opening.
