PURPOSE: To enhance the physical strength of suture needles by cutting a metal rod element at a prescribed length, bending the cut rod element in a specific curvilinear configuration, and forming a specific cross-sectional configuration and dimension along the longitudinal direction of the bent rod element.
CONSTITUTION: A first end 22 and a second end 24 are provided in a rod member 20 which is constituted from stainless steel and which has a required basically-round cross section. Subsequently, the end 22 is formed into a sharp needle tip 26 by laser machining for example. Then, the rod segment 20 having the sharp needle tip 26 is curved in a required curvilinear configuration. After that, the curved segment 32 of the suture needle is subjected to a cold forming process through stamping or the intermediary of proper pressure die molds. In this case, a recess or a groove 36, 38 is formed on the opposite end of the suture needle. Consequently, cold-forming after the curving of the suture needle 32 can impart a 15-20% higher physical strength to the needle than that by the conventional methods.
