Abstract:
To provide an industrially advantageous oxidation and desulfurization process which can oxidize and remove selectively and efficiently hardly- removable sulfur compounds contained in a fuel oil, for example, organic sulfur compounds, particularly dibenzothiophenes.
A fuel oil containing sulfur compounds is treated with an oxidizing agent in the presence of a polar organic solvent and a transition metal catalyst to desulfurize the sulfur compounds.
