Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a phthalic acid compound having a chlorinated aromatic ring in high yield without using a solvent developing high environmental load such as carbon tetrachloride.
The method for producing a phthalic acid compound having a chlorinated aromatic ring comprises a step of making a phthalic acid compound react with chlorine in the presence of a chlorosulfonic acid, thionyl chloride and an iodine compound. The phthalic acid compound is preferably phthalic acid, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, phthaloyl monohalide, isophthaloyl monohalide, terephthaloyl monohalide, phthaloyl dihalide, isophthaloyl dihalide or terephthaloyl dihalide.
