Abstract:

PURPOSE: To recover germanium from ethylene glycol soln. contg. Ge which is leaved in a polyester producing process with high rate of recovery and more conveniently as compared to the conventional process, by hydrolyzing the ethylene glycol soln. under a specified condition where the soln. is held at a specified pH range.

CONSTITUTION: Ethylene glycol soln. contg. Ge produced in a polyester producing process is hydrolyzed under a condition where the pH value of the soln. is regulated to 3.0W9.0 by adding water and a base to the soln. By this method, the Ge compd. contained in the soln. is deposited in the form of germanium dioxide and separated. The recovered germanium dioxide is useful by recycling as a catalyst for producing polyester. Suitable base for the adjustment of pH is inorg. base, aliphatic amine, N-contg. heterocyclic compd., OH group contg. amine, etc. The amt. of water to be added is preferred to be regulated to 3W13wt% water content of the ethylene glycol.
