Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for smelting nickel oxide ore by forming pellets from nickel oxide ore and reduction-heating the pellets in a smelting furnace to produce an iron-nickel alloy, and in which, by effectively proceeding the smelting reaction in a reduction step, the fusion of the pellets can be prevented as well as an iron-nickel alloy having a high nickel grade can be produced.SOLUTION: The process for smelting nickel oxide ore according to the present invention includes a pellet producing step S1 for producing pellets from nickel oxide ore and a reduction step S2 for reduction-heating the obtained pellets in a smelting furnace, and in which: in the pellet producing step S1, at least a raw material containing nickel oxide ore and a carbonaceous reducing agent is mixed to form a mixture, and the mixture is agglomerated to form pellets; and in the reduction step S2, the pellet obtained in the pellet producing step S1 is placed on the hearth floor of a smelting furnace having a metallic hearth floor and is subjected to a reduction heat treatment at a temperature of 1,000°C or more and 1,300°C or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
