Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an α- or β-glycoside by reacting a hexopyranose 1-carbonic acid ester derivative in a state of solution with a hydroxy compound, thereby stereoselectively glycosylating the derivative under mild condition.

CONSTITUTION: A hexopyranose 1-carbonic acid ester derivative dissolved in ethyl ether, etc., is made to react with a hydroxy compound (preferably a sugar derivative) in the presence of an acid catalyst preferably at -20 to -40°C to effect the objective glycosylation reaction. The process can selectively produce a β-glycoside at a reaction temperature of ≤0°C and an α-glycoside at a reaction temperature of ≥0°C.
