To provide a process for separating and recovering a plastic component and a flame retardant component from a waste plastic efficiently without fail and, desirably, for using a part of the treated waste plastic effectively.
This process comprises the steps of: heating an organic solvent having a boiling point of at least 250°C and an aromaticity index of at least 0.20 to a temperature being in the range of 200-400°C and lower than its boiling point; immersing a waste plastic containing a flame retardant component in the heated organic solvent to separate it into a plastic component and a flame retardant component; and separately recovering the separated plastic and flame retardant components from the organic solvent. Desirably, the plastic component recovered from the organic solvent is crushed to process it into a fuel for a furnace and/or an iron source reductant.
