The processing apparatus (100) includes a housing (102) which includes: a motor; and a drive shaft (236) with a drive engagement device, rotatable by the motor (202) about a drive axis. The apparatus further includes a bowl (112). The drive shaft extends into the bowl when the bowl is secured to the housing. The apparatus also includes: a bowl lid (114) having a chute (126); a lid shaft (303) having a lid engagement device (304), which is axially aligned with the drive shaft when the bowl and bowl lid are in the working position; and a pusher (128) having a pusher engagement portion for causing the lid engagement device to move the drive engagement device into the retracted position when the bowl and bowl lid are in the working position. When the drive engagement device is at the retracted position, the drive shaft can be rotated by the motor.
