Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the lubricity of the title disk by coating excess perfluoroalkyl polyether contg. an active group on the magnetic recording layer formed on a substrate directly or through a protective layer, heat-treating the material, and then cleaning the material with an org. solvent.

CONSTITUTION: Excess perfluoroalkyl polyether having an active group and ≥1 functional group selected from a hydroxyl group, an isocyanate group, a carboxyl group, a methyl ester group is coated on the magnetic recording layer formed on a substrate directly or through a protective layer of carbon, SiO2, Si3N4, etc., and the material is heat-treated preferably at ≥60°C. Since only a fixed amt. of the coated perfluoroalkyl polyether molecules is strongly adhered to the substrate by heat treatment, the material is cleaned with an org. solvent. Accordingly, the excessive perfluoroalkyl polyether is washed off, and the perfluoroalkyl polyether is uniformly coated over the whole surface of the disk. As a result, the lubricity between the disk and a head is improved.
