To provide a method for in-situ sealing for burning out binder in an open atmosphere and sintering in a closed atmosphere.
For sintering a product such as a ceramic substrate, a single furnace loading cycle technique, and a ventable sintering box are provided. The sintering box has a closeable cover 20 which is held open by collapsible or deformable or sensitive spacers 16 and 18 within a first furnace temperature range. The sensitive spacers 16, 18 are collapsed or deformed at a high temperature range to seal the closed box and the substrate 25 in it. Volatile agent in the substrate can thus be discharged in the first temperature range, but it is not discharged in a higher temperature range. In a further higher temperature range, additional sensitive spacers are used for applying weight upon the substrate 25 by collapsing or deforming of the sensitive spacers 16, 18.
