Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce an engine ring made of aluminum having a film of a thin layer capable of horning and not deteriorating the capacity of an engine by providing the sliding face of the inside diameter with a chromium plated layer having specified hardness.

CONSTITUTION: The sliding face of the inside diameter of an engine cylinder made of aluminum is provided with a chromium plated layer having hardness of 700 to 800Hv. This chromium plated layer can be formed by executing plating at 61 to 65°C plating soln. temp. and 20 to 60A/dm2 current density using a plating soln. having a compsn. of 250g/L chromic acid and 2.5g/L sulfuric acid. After that, this chromium plated layer is subjected to horning, by which the cylinder having prescribed inside diameter can efficiently be produced.
