PURPOSE: To obtain the cantilever of high quality by bonding metal pins to a metal bar, forming a high specific modulus material through chemical vapor deposition, etc. on the surfaces thereof, removing the metal bar and pins through etching to form high specific modulus pipes and burying stylus tips in the holes after the pins.

CONSTITUTION: A metal bar of, e.g., 0.3mm in diameter, is pressed with dies to alternately form large diameter parts 1a of, e.g, 0.3mm in diameter and small diameter parts of 0.15mm at a specified spacing. Next, metal pins 5 of the same diameter as that of stylus tip insertion holes, e.g., 0.1mm diameter, are secured in the positions of the small diameter parts 1b where stylus tips are to be mounted. Next, a high specific modulus material layer 6 is formed on the surfaces of the metal bar and metal pins 5 through chemical vapor deposition, etc. Following to this, the metal bar 1 is cut at the large diameter parts 1a and small diameter parts 1b, and the metal bars 1 and metal pins 5 are removed by etching and only the pipe form high specific modulus material layer 6 is taken out.
