Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a process for producing γ-butyrolactone in high efficiency at a low cost while enabling the recycled use of unreacted substance.
CONSTITUTION: γ-Butyrolactone is produced by the vapor-phase catalytic dehydrogenation of 1,4-butanediol in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is carried out in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst containing copper and chromium. Produced γ-butyrolactone is separated from the reaction mixture and the remaining part is recycled as a raw material.
