Abstract:
To provide a method for more efficiently producing 1α,24(R)- dihydroxycholesterol.
This method for producing the objective 1α,24(R)- dihydroxycholesterol of formula III comprises a process for affording a compound of formula II (A and B are each H atom, or joined together into a single bond or an ether linkage; R is a 2-10C acyl group) by esterification of a 24(S)- hydroxycholesta-4,6-dien-3-one of formula I (A and B are each the same as those described in formula II) with an organic carboxylic acid on the presence of an azodicarboxylic dialkyl ester and a triarylphosphine while inverting the steric configuration at the 24-site.
