Title:
PRODUCTION OF 1,1-DISUBSTITUTED-1,2,3,4-TETRAHYDRONAPHTHALENE COMPOUND
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09249584
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To readily and efficiently produce the subject compound from an inexpensive raw material in few steps by adding a 1,3-butadiene compound to an alkyl-substituted benzene and then intramolecularly cyclizing the resultant adduct.

A compound of formula I {R1 and R2 are each H, an alkyl, etc.; Z is a substituent group or an aromatic ring stable under reactional conditions; (m) is 1-5; (n) is 0-4; [(m)+(n)] is ≤5, with the proviso that at least one of adjacent carbon atoms of those bonded to at least one group CH(R1)(R2) is unsubstituted when (m) is ≥2} is reacted with a compound of formula II (R3 and R4 are each H, an aryl, etc., with the proviso that at least either of R3 and R4 is not H when at least either of R1 and R2 in formula I is H) in the presence of a basic catalyst for anionic addition (e.g. an alkali metal) to afford a 1:1 adduct in which the composed of formula II is added to 1mol either of the groups CH(R1)(R2). The resultant adduct is then heated in the presence of an acidic catalyst (preferably a solid acid such as zeolite) and intramolecularly cyclized.
