PURPOSE: To swiftly obtain the material by simple operation in high yield by bringing bromine to react with 1,5,9-cis, trans, trans-cyclododecatriene in a solvent and then bringing this reaction mixture to contact with ammonia.
CONSTITUTION: Bromine is brought to react with 1,5,9-cis, trans, trans- cyclododecatriene at 40 to 60°C in a solvent (such as ethanol), and after the completion of the bromination reaction, the reaction mixture is brought to contact with ammonia to obtained the material. Ammonia is fed in a gaseous state or as its soln. contg. a solvent other than water (preferably, the one same as the solvent used at the time of the bromination reaction), the reaction mixture remaining after the catalytic reaction with ammonia is filtered, and the mother liquor is successively utilized for the following reaction without executing any purifying treatment. The reaction is executed in a semi-batch or continuous system. The material is useful as a flame retardant for polystyrene, etc.
