PURPOSE: To produce the subject strip improved in corrosion resistance without damaging the workability by cooling a cast strip in the range from just below a mold to coiling with nitrogen gas at the time of continuously casting the 18-8 series austenite stainless steel strip.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel 2 is poured between one pair of cooling drums 3 from a tundish 1 to form pool, and solidified shell developed on each peripheral surface of the drums 3 is press-welded at kissing point 4 to make the cast strip 5. This cast strip 5 is sent to a coiling machine 8 with pinch rolls 6 set in a sealing box 7 and coiled and conveyed to the next process. Then, in the sealing box 7, the nitrogen gas having ≥ about 0.95atm N2 partial pressure and ≥ about 150Nm3/H flow rate, is supplied to cool the cast strip 5. By this method, the strip having concentrated layer of nitrogen on the surface, is continuously obtd., and the high corrosion resistant 18-8 series austenite stainless steel strip is produced without damaging the workability and descaling at the following process is efficiently executed.
