Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a 2-alkoxy-3,5,6-trihalobenzoquinone by which not only the formation of bisether derivatives as a by-product can be reduced but also a decrease in rate of reaction can be prevented.
When a tetrahalobenzoquinone is reacted with an alcohol to produce a 2-alkoxy-3,5,6-trihalobenzoquinone, a bicarbonate is used as a dehydrohalogenating agent and at least one kind selected from ketonic solvents and halogenated aromatic solvents is used as a solvent. Furthermore, a primary alcohol is used as the alcohol.
