PURPOSE: A bacterium belonging to Streptomyces and producing 2-amino-3-butynoic acid is cultured in a medium and title compound used for a metal rust preventive is separated and isolated in high yield, although the compound is produced in low yield when synthesized.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium belonging to Streptomyces, which is capable of producing 2-amino-3-butynoic acid, such as Streptomyces catenulae No.4707 (FERM-4365), is cultured in an enriched medium, preferably through submerged culture method, at a temperature of about 30°C for 50W100hr. Then, the acid accumulated in the medium is separated, isolated and purified by centrifuge, concentration under reduced pressure, freez drying, solvent extraction, ion-exchange resin treatment, adsorbent treatment. 2-Amino-3-butynoic acid has the chemical structure of the formula and used for a metal rust preventive.
