Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a highly pure 2-chloro-3-cyanopyridine in good yield, while suppressing the by-production of 2-chloro-5-cyanopyridine.
CONSTITUTION: Phosphorus oxychloride is reacted with 3-cyanopyridine N-oxide in the presence of a tertiary amine at ≤50°C, and the reaction solution is heated at ≥70°C to produce 2-chloro-3-cyanopyridine.
